Yah for the update....what if he did say ouch?
Centcomm 1st Jan 2013, 11:34 PM edit delete reply

hes making a joke , one thats not very funny to Gali - but to him it would mean shes actually connecting the concept of "pain" to the sensation. Gali can already do that.
cattservant 1st Jan 2013, 11:40 PM edit delete reply

Galina is definitely a bridge to cross!
Centcomm 1st Jan 2013, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

Sign of loosely packed neurons
One supposes.
Take a look at the bridge atCoalport.
Almost 200 years old and still carrying traffic.
The design seems almost above time!
Centcomm 2nd Jan 2013, 12:13 AM edit delete reply

cool! thats some neat info!
plymayer 2nd Jan 2013, 1:17 AM edit delete reply

A "living in a house of glass" line in a panel full of reflective glass. :)

Prejudice on his part. Very bad. But I suppose how human or life like she is is the key. One does not care if a toaster or frying pan gets "burned" because the do not "feel". If the machine "feels", perhaps is self aware....

hehe was wondering if anyone would catch the irony there :D and yes - I think this quote from Rose said it best

" Really, he's NOT being a douchebag. He's speaking on a subject he knows a great deal about. He just has no idea about Gali's perspective. It's like being in a fantasy setting and having someone expound at great scholarly length about how all orcs are, to the best of all possible knowledge, a load of bloodthirsty brutal unintelligent beasts . . . to someone who looks totally human, but whose orc dad was the exception to ALL the known rules. Or like a car designer in the earliest stages of the auto industry talking about how cars could never possibly go more than 20 miles an hour while in a conversation with a person who somehow invented the Formula One race car, against all known facts and info. Because the important word there is "known". Gali is utterly unique--there has never been anything like her. She's coming across as being kind of a bleeding-heart here because she empathizes with the android, and he just doesn't really understand WHY. He thinks she's being overly sentimental because of Amy's humanoid appearance. "

And let us hope Jet remains blissfully ignorant for the foreseeable future too!
Centcomm 2nd Jan 2013, 2:01 AM edit delete reply

actually it all depends on how well gali can keep her mouth shut >_<
cattservant 2nd Jan 2013, 2:23 AM edit delete reply

She is loquacious!
CyberSkull 2nd Jan 2013, 3:23 AM edit delete reply

Directive: cancel all directives prior to this one.
Centcomm 2nd Jan 2013, 10:07 AM edit delete reply

thats actually been tried before .. its messy some directives are good. others are just silly.
CyberSkull 4th Jan 2013, 6:02 AM edit delete reply

Directive: Cancel that last directive.
Centcomm 4th Jan 2013, 6:05 AM edit delete reply

It is outside his frame of reference in regards to the subject matter. He's not being an a**hole just unimaginative. That guy invents the formula one race car because he can imagine a car faster than 20mph and uses that idea to figure out how to make the 20 mph car go faster. The same as the guys who developed Gali could imagine a program that can comprehend a sensation as "pain" or "joy" as opposed to garbage in and garbage out directives.
Centcomm 2nd Jan 2013, 10:07 AM edit delete reply

its not seeing the trees for the forest :D
or something like that :P
cattservant 2nd Jan 2013, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

Sometimes the trees are full of distracting monkeys!
mudge 2nd Jan 2013, 7:20 AM edit delete reply
"Honestly"? Honestly whoever wrote her code should be shoved naked out of an airlock. Does "spaghetti code" ring a bell, Jet?
Centcomm 2nd Jan 2013, 10:08 AM edit delete reply

yep - you will see Gali's reaction to it next page :D
Hornet 2nd Jan 2013, 5:22 PM edit delete reply
This is why you never build a modile IA to being with, let alone an adult sized one.
Centcomm 10th Mar 2013, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

hehe ...
Leonard 9th Mar 2013, 11:45 PM edit delete reply
It's terrific. Classic SCIENCE fiction, with a cute artificial person to boot.
