Everyone knows that things go wrong with military hardware that are undreamed of in the civilian world. Every time they create something more "idiot-proof" they release a better idiot.
The battle-drones were probably all programmed by officers.
Centcomm 21st Oct 2012, 12:07 AM edit delete reply

Heheh - Very probably ... Galina is worryed that these "failures" will cause her concern at some point. its questionable if shes Military or Civilian ...
Don B. 13th May 2013, 8:48 PM edit delete reply
They don't have to release a better idiot, they already have one. It's called a soldier. Note: I'm not actually disparaging soldiers here, they operate in extreme conditions that most civilians could never dream of. Also look at any sufficiently sized group of people and you will find at least one who could break or screw up anything you care to think of and quite a bit you would never have imagined.

Considering her reaction to
weapons, she seems pretty clearly civilian to me...
stormbringer77 10th Sep 2014, 7:10 AM edit delete reply

I'm what you would call a Retired Soldier and I won't deny that I have had to deal with a few of the idiots you refer to.But most of them are good people with some that are downright geniouses.
CyberSkull 21st Oct 2012, 7:33 AM edit delete reply

The failure of a more highly engineered system is quite suspect. Object recognition is the core system for recognizing any kind of threat, so for friend or foe to fail the drones would be in a state where they couldn't tell their left foot from a teapot, let alone their forces from the enemy.

So it is either sabotage (did someone open an email saying "I love you"?) or a deliberate act to eliminate a competing political element.

*wink , wink , nudge - nudge * what do you think.
cattservant 21st Oct 2012, 5:20 PM edit delete reply

Implausible deniability perhaps?
Centcomm 21st Oct 2012, 5:21 PM edit delete reply

hehe Thats one exscuse :D

*chuckles* I have my suspissions...
velvetsanity 12th Jun 2013, 11:50 AM edit delete reply

Given my scant knowledge of events during this time period...

There has been not a single failure in the military drones. They are likely operating under orders to eliminate all "threats"--"threats" most probably being identified as anything that moves and isn't wearing IFF gear tagging it as friendly. The lack of distinguishing noncombatants, surrenders, and fleeing from actual combatants is likely the fault of a West Pointer.

The whole "quantum processor failure" thing is *entirely* a PR attempt by the manufacturer to avoid themselves being targetted by an enraged public.

Gal" is OK with her "apparent" age now - but what happens when her current contemporaries discover that she does not age . . . ?
Centcomm 22nd Oct 2012, 2:48 PM edit delete reply

heheh Now thats a darn fine question isnt it ...
Hornet 22nd Oct 2012, 6:04 PM edit delete reply
So this is only a couple of years in the future. Naw, couldn't be that close what with having moon base (43yrs since man was first there). So the question become what took things this long to get to this point on "your" earth?
Centcomm 22nd Oct 2012, 6:07 PM edit delete reply

Actually - this story is set 800 years plus in our history. , not sure what events, the wars?

sorry for the delay .. instead of the US abandoning space research in THIS timeline they never abandoned it.. they funded it by govermental and private companys .. and basicly sold space to the highest bidder.

What a sad, SAD page. :( What's worse is realizing this - according to the prolog of Datachasers - is just the tip of the iceburg.

On a lighter note, I really would have liked to see that closed-door conversion between the teacher who graded Gali's tests and the commander. THAT would have been entertaining. :D

I also think the pacing would have benefitted if this page had been split so the news of Earth going down hill was separate. This page has a LOT of stuff. Just my two cents.
Centcomm 15th Apr 2014, 7:39 PM edit delete reply

This comic is presented in Locked POV format everything is from Galina's perspective if shes not there the readers will not see it. and her Narritive is meant to help the story along - this is a expermental visual novel :D
