A convincing demonstration, especially to a witness as empathic as the commander. Self-preservation is one thing; I would think many robots in this world would have that to a degree.

But accompanied by what *seems* to be real fear AND an outright refusal to obey a correctly worded order from a human... That's a paradigm-changing combination.
Centcomm 27th Sep 2012, 1:01 PM edit delete reply

Oh yes - Ding Ding .. right on the head!
CyberSkull 28th Sep 2012, 4:36 AM edit delete reply

Free-thinking entities have self-preservation wired in at the lowest level. Robots on the other hand here have have an imperative to obey the lawful DIRECTIVEs of their registered owners stamped in the lowest areas. So the fact that Galina not only understands the concept of harm, but she can apply it to herself and decide it is a bad thing she does not want, and is therefor a sentient life form.
