"The scream which shattered" ... A woman who lived next door to me used to do that. I never understood why her own head didn't explode from the sheer volume.

Also, I really love the texturing here on the silver parts!
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

hehe - did she break wood and glass?

Also thank you very much! that was a custom job by me.
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 1:55 AM edit delete reply

Well, as long as she didn't shatter your dreams, I'm sure it wasn't that bad.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST WATCH!! AUGH!
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 2:34 PM edit delete reply

An Little Baby Ice Cream commercial.
It's for kids, y'know? :)
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 2:37 PM edit delete reply

*sits in stunned shocked silence..*

That .. is .. NOT FOR KIDS!!!
Hornet 16th Jul 2015, 4:30 PM edit delete reply
Seen it before and Yes, someone was on some Good Crack that day.
DLKmusic 16th Jul 2015, 5:08 PM edit delete reply

Ice cream is dead to me now... dead I say...
Haegan2005 16th Jul 2015, 8:49 PM edit delete reply

Lukkai 16th Jul 2015, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

chk 16th Jul 2015, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

Yummy
Sheela 17th Jul 2015, 5:29 AM edit delete reply

It is yummy, babies love it. :)
Haegan2005 16th Jul 2015, 12:40 AM edit delete reply

The machines look suitably alien. or Girl Genius Victorian. I can't decide which!
velvetsanity 16th Jul 2015, 9:16 AM edit delete reply

Duh! The answer is both! And Steam Powered Giraffe might use it if their show involved props :D
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:12 PM edit delete reply

I went for some really wierd shapes for the Epiphyte tech .. I didnt want to make it similar to tech that is in other places in the DC universe .. :D
dpallee 16th Jul 2015, 12:42 AM edit delete reply

Great page-love the hologram effects.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

Galina still hasn't been given that mint salad yet. Where's the chef?
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

Shes somewhere. *looks*
Sheela 17th Jul 2015, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

The Chef is a mint salad, and has gone into hiding!
Lukkai 17th Jul 2015, 10:10 PM edit delete reply

At least he's in mint condition.
cattservant 16th Jul 2015, 2:17 AM edit delete reply

Deus ex Machina...
Tokyo Rose 16th Jul 2015, 11:54 AM edit delete reply

Gosh, thanks for the colossal insult here. Had we not quite managed to convey the fact that the Epiphytes have technology so advanced that Clarke's Third Law is in effect?

They create semi-living starships that are 150 miles long and use tame black holes for propulsion. Galina is about as technically complex to them as a bucket of Legos.
cattservant 16th Jul 2015, 12:22 PM edit delete reply

Not intended as an insult.

Intention to say;
It's good to have the adults come
and make it safe and better
come the end of day!
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:51 PM edit delete reply

It was just a simple lack of context .. Thanks for the apology! Most of the time when you see that phrase its calling it a cheap plot mechanic :D

I think thats why Rose took it the way she did.
Tokyo Rose 16th Jul 2015, 7:22 PM edit delete reply

Cent nailed it. "Deus ex machina" tends to have the negative connotation of being a contrived and cheap way of forcing a resolution to a seemingly unresolvable problem. It CAN be done "right" for an unexpected surprise, a comedic effect, or a wholly legitimate plot device depending on setting, but in context, I took the phrase as the "you painted yourself into a corner and pulled this out of your ass like the world's most terrible street magician" version.

Sorry for biting your ass, catt. :)
cattservant 16th Jul 2015, 8:20 PM edit delete reply

Not at all. A good application of fangs
can be downright stimulating!
anonymous coward 16th Jul 2015, 12:24 PM edit delete reply
That might not be what they're talking about: Someone suffers enough sonic energy damage to kill and there's no brain damage? That's kinda lucky at a minimum even if it was mostly frequencies that don't resonate or penetrate the skin layer; the pain response alone is medically significant. And again lucky to have the emergency medic less than ten minutes out (maybe five) from when Galina dropped, because you're basically talking magic to put a brain back together after it finishes dying. It could be that they were restoring backups of nervous structure and neural state after Galina died, but then you wouldn't expect continuity of experience would you?
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:54 PM edit delete reply

Off screen.. The Epiphytes had her to the Menders within a very short time.. and Watchers arrived to help support her untill they were able to give her full support .. Galina's brain is heavily reinforced
thankfully the beacon never actually matched the resonance of brain matter .. otherwise it would have liquified it. and her cerbro-spinal fluid served as a shock absorber for the electronics that are tied into her brain.
kitty 16th Jul 2015, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
Galina was dying, she was not dead yet. That has to make a difference.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 6:47 PM edit delete reply

It makes ALL the diffrence .. it wouldnt have mattered HOW good Epip tech was if she had already died.
Sheela 17th Jul 2015, 5:32 AM edit delete reply

Well, I guess that technically, she *was* dead, but just not so far gone that she couldn't be resucitated.

Heck, that happens even today.
Quieteyes 18th Jul 2015, 10:55 AM edit delete reply
So she was only mostly dead? :-)
Centcomm 19th Jul 2015, 1:37 PM edit delete reply

Correct Sheela .. Brain death had not occurred .. and that pretty means that this was very easy for them to fix. all they had to do was support her until they got the rest of her body functional again.
DLKmusic 16th Jul 2015, 2:24 AM edit delete reply

Only 3 strips left... and a potential Hugo Campaign if we can get enough people on board!
Mark_L_A 16th Jul 2015, 2:44 AM edit delete reply

I fully intend to nominate it for the Hugo. Next years entry is $50.00 USD to get a voting membership at MidAmerica Con.

http://midamericon2.org/

To sign up for next year so you can nominate and vote for the Hugos.
Stormwind13 16th Jul 2015, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

Well that is in my backyard (actually clear across the state, but still), so I'll probably have to go if at all possible. Thanks for reminding me, Mark.
Mark_L_A 17th Jul 2015, 12:39 AM edit delete reply

I still have family in St. Louis. I might visit them next year just to go to the Con and see the envelopes opened. Assuming we can get enough nominations for Luna-Star and Possibly DataChasers.
HiFranc 16th Jul 2015, 6:09 AM edit delete reply

I take it that's only open to Americans?
Stormwind13 16th Jul 2015, 6:27 PM edit delete reply

Actually no, HiFranc. If you get the Supporting Membership, you can vote without actually attending the convention. The membership list for this year shows 7967 from US, 506 from Canada, 450 from United Kingdom, 199 from Australia.

You can go to their website and see the full list if you like. :-)
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:55 PM edit delete reply

Wooo! :D ( i don't know if its only open to US .. I know that people from other contreys have won it
Vivocateur 16th Jul 2015, 2:53 AM edit delete reply

Wow!
Only three pages?
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

YEP! just three more to go! then I can mark this as finished!
Mark_L_A 17th Jul 2015, 12:40 AM edit delete reply

Then the Kickstarter for printed and bound copies. Autographed copies are $20.00 extra.
mjkj 20th Jul 2015, 8:38 AM edit delete reply

Must. Have. That...
plymayer 16th Jul 2015, 2:55 AM edit delete reply

A very technologically magical page.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:10 PM edit delete reply

Oh yes!
howard 16th Jul 2015, 5:00 AM edit delete reply
I just hope that the earth has not nuked itself thanks to the effects of the "scream that shatters" by the time they get back there. I mean the wastelands from Datachasers had to be created somehow...
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 10:20 AM edit delete reply

Well, they were already working on blowing up the planet by the time the Luna Star story started.

It would be interesting to know, if the broken beacon was the reason why it got so bad, and made them detonate tri-fusion bombs in their own cities.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:56 PM edit delete reply

actually .. the situation deteriorated in the years after this, but it had nothing to do with the Epiphytes.. The Last page covers some of these points.
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 2:38 PM edit delete reply

Oh good, I don't think the Epiphytes would have forgiven themsleves if they had been responsible to the nuclear apocalypse on earth.
Timotheus 16th Jul 2015, 5:16 AM edit delete reply

" Thank you all who are stciking(sp) around ! :D"
Then again, where would we all be going this late in the game?
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

I dunno .. lost 2 subs so I have no Idea ..
Stormwind13 16th Jul 2015, 2:46 PM edit delete reply

No idea either. Seems kind of odd to read up until now and then drop out. Unless they got made about you killing Galina and rage quit reading. Hopefully they will wander back in and see that the Epiphytes saved her.
Sheela 17th Jul 2015, 5:33 AM edit delete reply

Out of curiosity, how many subscribers do you guys have ?
Stormwind13 18th Jul 2015, 6:02 PM edit delete reply

According to the Profile page, currently at 180 subscriptions, Sheela. Which is a full 100 lower than Data Chasers.
Timotheus 17th Jul 2015, 5:38 AM edit delete reply

Really? That's odd for a reader at this point.
Oh, I was trying to point out that stciking was misspelled, in case you missed the (sp).
HiFranc 16th Jul 2015, 6:07 AM edit delete reply

When she referred to Jet on the previous page, I thought that they were conversing over a comm-link rather than in person.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:09 PM edit delete reply

Nope Jet was still on the Luna Star he was talking though the relay. Her comm was damaged by the beacon.
HiFranc 17th Jul 2015, 8:07 PM edit delete reply

That was still acting as a comm link. I was going to say "radio" but I wasn't sure if that was the correct term.
Matt Knab 16th Jul 2015, 6:32 AM edit delete reply

These menders are swell folk! Let's hope we can get everyone back home to accept/trust them!
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:05 PM edit delete reply

They really are. remember Epiphytes Choose a profession and then stick to it for HUNDREDS of years. and they have the Seed and Tide to access ( think of having every medical professional on earth at your fingertips .. and they are never busy.

Humans are iffy about the Epiphytes in general and it varied over the years. They were a common scapegoat for a lot of things. and it didn't help there case they simply accepted the blame and moved on.

Actual Violence against the Epips was rare.. Kidnapping ? BAD IDEA .. they can find each other mentally .. Shoot one with a gun.. its highly unlikely one shot will kill or even seriously injure them. due to a diffused organ system and a lack of vitals.

And if you REALLY pushed the issue .. they had weapons and defensive tech that made the fight very one sided. No one wants to fight a foe that can throw a localized gravity well at you.

Or make Star trek phasers.. that can turn someone to dust.

It also helps that Epiphytes are just generally likeable. - They started a entertainment industry that exists even in 3825.. " Lost in Translation " Is a epiphyte produced Show series. And one of the most popular and longest running soaps in the DC UNiverse.
DLKmusic 16th Jul 2015, 2:18 PM edit delete reply

But what about the Vegans, Cent? wasn't there a mass crisis of conscience once they found out plants were sentient too?
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 2:36 PM edit delete reply

That kinda got killed when the Epiphytes declared that food plants are NOT sentient in any measurable level.. and dumped tons of food stuffs on needy people. you might say they have "green thumbs" .. and hands.. and arms.. you get the idea.
Stormwind13 16th Jul 2015, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

That is an AWFUL joke, CentComm! Someday you will PAY for jokes like that. Karma will get you!

But very altruistic of the Epiphytes. Who pretty much DEFINE altruistic. :-)
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 2:40 PM edit delete reply

Eh, we know pigs are sentient, and we still eat those tasty porkchops!
Tokyo Rose 16th Jul 2015, 7:26 PM edit delete reply

Small correction: the Epiphytes don't produce "Lost in Translation". There's one Epiphyte in the cast, though. She's constantly in a state of amused despair at just how clueless the writers are about Epiphyte biology and sociology and just about every other ology you can imagine.
anonymous coward 16th Jul 2015, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
A script writer not knowing basic science? Wow, the more things change....
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 9:51 PM edit delete reply

ack sorry .. well you handle the "lost in translation" bits more than I do I just assumed it was a Epip show :D
Mark_L_A 17th Jul 2015, 12:43 AM edit delete reply

New comic to replace Luna-Star "Lost in Translation" Starring an Epiphyte.
mjkj 16th Jul 2015, 9:20 AM edit delete reply

Yayyy, Gali is fine :D *hugs her and Dahlia* =D
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 1:08 PM edit delete reply

yep that she is! :D
Sheela 16th Jul 2015, 2:42 PM edit delete reply

She can has hugz!

And maybe a kitten too.
Centcomm 16th Jul 2015, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

I think Galina would like kittens .. shes never actually had a pet.
DLKmusic 16th Jul 2015, 11:32 PM edit delete reply

This will make up for Sheela's Ice Cream video
cattservant 17th Jul 2015, 1:35 AM edit delete reply

Cats make everything better!
Stormwind13 17th Jul 2015, 7:04 PM edit delete reply

Here, Galina can have one of these kitties, CentComm. }:-D~>

Those cats will make SOMETHING better, catt. You will need a BETTER hiding place or they might find you. :-D
Lukkai 16th Jul 2015, 11:32 PM edit delete reply

More of on her way to be fine, actually. But yeah.

And to those who'd like running their mouth as to "the hero surviving everything because there has to be a happy ending has been done to death": Well if you're arguing that way, so has the "heroic sacrifice". Or basically any other way to end a story. So there.
DLKmusic 16th Jul 2015, 11:42 PM edit delete reply

What Lukkai said!
Sheela 17th Jul 2015, 5:40 AM edit delete reply

More kittens : Kitten train
Stormwind13 17th Jul 2015, 9:36 PM edit delete reply

Sheela... We are going to revoke you Dog Tags if you keep posting things THAT cute. Especially when they are the ENEMY (cats and dogs do NOT get along). :-D
Mark_L_A 17th Jul 2015, 10:33 PM edit delete reply

Stormwind, I'll have you know that right this very second, my cat Ghost is eating out of the same bowl as my dogs Layla and Skeeter. At night Ghost sleeps on my pillow next to Ariel the chihuahua (my daughters dog). Actually if you want to get technical, the only animal which I claim is my cat Ghost. The 7 dogs, aren't mine, any of them, but they all insist on trying to sleep in my bed all the time. And Ghost doesn't have any problem with any of them.

STRANGE cats however, well then Yes my dogs do have a problem with them.
Stormwind13 17th Jul 2015, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

Family doesn't count Mark. And apparently the animals all recognize that they are family. :-)
Sheela 18th Jul 2015, 4:19 PM edit delete reply

What do you mean Stormwind ?
Like how Dolly rescues all the lost little kittens ?
Or finding kittens in strange places?
How else am I supposed to learn how my enemy ensnares the humans ? I need intel on this stuff!
DLKmusic 18th Jul 2015, 6:27 PM edit delete reply
You could always try being nice to people, Sheela, that does usually work!

Failing that, you could try learning to Purr....
Sheela 18th Jul 2015, 6:48 PM edit delete reply

Purr, huh ?

... grrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrRrRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! :)
DLKmusic 18th Jul 2015, 8:00 PM edit delete reply
**Sits with cat on lap**

What do you think, Max?

Sorry Sheela, Max says you're a poser...
DLKmusic 18th Jul 2015, 8:10 PM edit delete reply
Actually, I want to apologize for that, Sheela... it sounded funny in my head, but came off as really insulting when I read it back... I'm at work, and don't have the luxury of being able to edit it.

Truth is, and in all seriousness, you are a lot of fun to joke around with.
Sheela 19th Jul 2015, 9:37 AM edit delete reply

He he, don't sweat it, I don't mind. :)

Though I *will* have to punish you for it!
So here, have a bear attack! >_<
DLKmusic 19th Jul 2015, 12:47 PM edit delete reply
ACK, ARGH, URK! Dying from cuteness!!!!

Curse you Sheela!!!

"Eeeexcellent, my plan is almost complete!" >:)
Centcomm 19th Jul 2015, 1:39 PM edit delete reply

"Staples paws" ?!?! doesn't that hurt Sheela? Hands her a staple remover ..
Sheela 19th Jul 2015, 7:03 PM edit delete reply

Everything for the plan!
StellarJay 18th Jul 2015, 4:13 AM edit delete reply

That's quite the fancy hospital gown that Galina has on. I wonder if she will keep it afterwards? It seems better than a little plastic pitcher.
Centcomm 18th Jul 2015, 6:38 PM edit delete reply

you will see what happens !
CyberSkull 18th Jul 2015, 10:33 AM edit delete reply

"We can rebuild her. We have the technology."

"Who's paying for it?"

"Uh, crap. I suppose there's enough left in the budget for a burial in the garden with a plaque."
Centcomm 18th Jul 2015, 6:38 PM edit delete reply

LOL! thats aweful!
xpacetrue 19th Jul 2015, 3:51 PM edit delete reply

Luna Star is coming to an end. (And Datachasers seems to be nearing one.)

Q: Does Cent and Rose have plans to start a new comic after this one is over?
Sheela 19th Jul 2015, 7:04 PM edit delete reply

If I'm understanding it correctly, Datachasers is a continious type of webcomic ?
So new stories will come along after this one finishes.

Or am I completely off my rockers here ?
Centcomm 19th Jul 2015, 7:53 PM edit delete reply

Datachasers IS nearing the end of a major arc .. BUT it will continue right along ( working on second arc as i go ) it will be same setting same characters but a different plot and stuffs .. :D

But yes Luna Star is ending and its always had a planned ending :D
DLKmusic 19th Jul 2015, 11:03 PM edit delete reply
Will you be picking "Staff and Sword" back up after LS, or is that a project on permanent hibernation?
Centcomm 19th Jul 2015, 11:06 PM edit delete reply

That is one of the plans to actually get some pages out for that :D the schedule isn't known yet :D right now im working on a massive buffer for DC
