I think he may be hearing the Epiphite. I believe Zophia mentioned something about chaotic thoughts to Ceci. That would explain why Rainer is off the deep end. I don't believe he can handle telepathic contact. Mind you, him being a "Carthian" probably means he wasn't all that stable to begin with. I also get the feeling that he isn't the only one going through this. Would explain the rise in perscriptions Galina mentioned.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 10:57 PM edit delete reply

someone has been paying attention :D
I wont confirm anything at this point ^_^
cattservant 23rd Jun 2013, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

So did the Epiphytes just arrive at a bad time, or was there a more direct (if unanticipated and unfortunate) relationship with the concurrent apocalypse?
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 3:44 PM edit delete reply

I cant answer that other than the arrive is throwing salt on a open wound..
velvetsanity 23rd Jun 2013, 11:08 PM edit delete reply

You mean Tulip will be arriving soon? YAY!!!
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 11:21 PM edit delete reply

i didnt say nuffin :D
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:02 AM edit delete reply

I reckon the voices could come trough his cybernetics too, right ?
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 12:35 AM edit delete reply

In an ancient greek dialect, Sheela? Who in 2837 would even *know* ancient greek dialects? Other than, you know, the epiphytes...Tulip never did clarify just *when* they had previously visited :D
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:55 AM edit delete reply

Deep Blue might know.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 12:58 AM edit delete reply

Ill point out Galina Can speak and understand well over some odd thousand languages .. Shes a natural translator. she also knows how to crack codes instinctively
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 1:17 AM edit delete reply

and yet she was having trouble with the dialect of greek he was repeating. probably because of his pronunciation
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

You didn't have to say "nuffin". The page, plus Ceci's visit with Tulip (over in Data Chasers) said it for you :D
Stormwind13 24th Jun 2013, 3:16 PM edit delete reply

I have to agree with you, Velvet. This puts me in mind of something out some Andre Norton, Solar Queen series.
And the title is kind of a tip off too. I mean, The Singers? Sure sounds like messages from ET to me. ET might not be the Epiphytes, but all the evidence would make me bet that way (just not the house). With the Greek (likely ancient) being babbled out it almost has to be, as somehow I doubt gun jock studied ancient Greek.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 3:56 PM edit delete reply

oh doesnt he strike you as just the pinical of learning >_<

and there are TWO distinct races mentioned in the Datachasers comics .. :D
Stormwind13 24th Jun 2013, 4:05 PM edit delete reply

Yes, but only one of them (Epiphytes) speaks OUR languages (at least Tulip seemed to be handling our languages). The fishies (Crian) seem to speak only their own.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 4:14 PM edit delete reply

good eye :D
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 4:12 PM edit delete reply

Fishies!
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 7:11 PM edit delete reply

*offers catt some tuna to curb that appetite and prevent problems with the fish-people*
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 7:28 PM edit delete reply

To maintain Feline reputation; prefer salmon!

[Hmnnn, fish-people? Sounds tasty!]
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 7:59 PM edit delete reply

mmMMmmmm ... smoked salmon. :)
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 8:29 PM edit delete reply

I still can't figure out how to keep it lit!
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 8:09 PM edit delete reply

*offers a smorgasbord of fish*
tuna, salmon, trout, anchovies...
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 8:28 PM edit delete reply

Well <tCaI>* have been known to have wild Tuna & Rootbeer parties on occasion...

cattservant 23rd Jun 2013, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

What @Don B. said!

Things have stopped going 'Bump in the Night' and now they are 'Knocking'!

Part of the reason DR. Cooper has been so busy.
And the Greek might also be hard to understand because it is archaic.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 11:21 PM edit delete reply

very good point :D
highlander55 23rd Jun 2013, 11:12 PM edit delete reply

Now he's monologuing. If he can do that until help arrives she might be ok.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

monologuing means he isnt shooting. Gali will take that as a small win. !
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:30 AM edit delete reply

Well, it's not like she's going to call him a bad guy and upset him even more than he already is.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 1:06 AM edit delete reply

nice clip :D
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 11:42 AM edit delete reply

Well, it's a nice little movie too.
Crazy thing is, the little girl is voice acted by a 42 year old lady.
Kinda cool actually. :)
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 4:00 PM edit delete reply

that is cool :D
Don B. 23rd Jun 2013, 11:22 PM edit delete reply
"That's what they all said"? I may be taking this statement the wrong way, but I don't like the sound of that.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 11:27 PM edit delete reply

I think you read it exactly correct.. :(
cattservant 23rd Jun 2013, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

@Don B.: Your perceptions are spot on tonight!
One might spare a thought for the fate of Nadia Base which was actively gathering intelligence on the subject.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2013, 11:40 PM edit delete reply

it hasnt been forgotten .. :D Nadia base will rear its head again soon..
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:03 AM edit delete reply

Ah, will we see the sarcastic autodoc again ?
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 12:11 AM edit delete reply

more than likely :D
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 12:38 AM edit delete reply

I liked that autodoc. Any chance it managed to find itself somewhere on earth in 3827, intact and functional? :D
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 11:43 AM edit delete reply

He probably became an AIS or something. XD
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 7:32 PM edit delete reply

Maybe it's working out its declining years in a run down med-bay on the docks at Nova Roma?
cattservant 23rd Jun 2013, 11:39 PM edit delete reply

This could be a formative 'life lesson' for Ms. Kotko if she lives through it.

As they say, "Think now, Scoop out later!"
This situation is playing right into her strengths.
Mayyday 24th Jun 2013, 12:08 AM edit delete reply

Holy crap actual trigger discipline.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 12:12 AM edit delete reply

Im really glad someone noticed that :D I do try to remember. ( some charcters dont have it because they dont know. )
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:27 AM edit delete reply

Hah, nice detail ... I must admit though, I totally missed it.
velvetsanity 24th Jun 2013, 12:39 AM edit delete reply

Ooh, I didn't even notice that. I'm so used to doing it myself that it completely slipped my notice...though I suppose I *should* have noticed given his state of mind...
Sheela 24th Jun 2013, 12:57 AM edit delete reply

It's probably been drilled into his head when he got his original training that he's doing it without knowing he's doing it.
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 1:06 AM edit delete reply

ding ding ding :D got it in one Sheela. :D
LooeyQ 24th Jun 2013, 10:08 AM edit delete reply

Uh-oh! Who's gonna pull her out of this bucket of syrup!!!
Centcomm 24th Jun 2013, 4:14 PM edit delete reply

im kinda curious on that note too!
cattservant 24th Jun 2013, 5:05 PM edit delete reply

Like they say, deal with it now, scoop 'em out later!
Dragonrider 24th Jun 2013, 6:01 PM edit delete reply
